Horseback Riding

Horseback riding and packing has a long and well established history in Alpine County, and today equestrian enthusiasts will find ample country for riding and camping. While no formal developed facilities exist, numerous dispersed campgrounds and areas welcome stock users.

With its size, extensive trail network, and stock-friendly trails, the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness is the most popular area of the county for riding. Trailheads at Pacific Valley and Wolf Creek offer large camping sites, while each provides access to the wilderness area's remote lakes, meadows and streams.
